How Neurofeedback Can Transform Mental Health: A Guide to Benefits and What to Expect

How Neurofeedback Can Transform Mental Health: A Guide to Benefits and What to Expect.

Introduction to IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback

– Overview of neurofeedback and its relevance to mental health

Neurofeedback is an evidenced based intervention that relies on computer based software to assess and monitor brainwave activity to establish a path toward metabolic clearance in the brain to promote effective change in behavior, mood, peak performance and reduction in symptoms of mental health problems and neurological symptoms and disorders. Moreover, patients report improved developmental concerns and delays, traumatic brain injuries, mental health problems and peak performance.

Moreover, at Authentic Brain Solutions we provide IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback and assessment of the brain using Brain Gauge. IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback, a 510K FDA Class A registered device, is a more modern and innovative type of neurofeedback. Microcurrent neurofeedback engages the brain in a different way than traditional neurofeedback in that it recalibrates the brain versus training the brain. The microcurrent used is based on the principle of hormesis, less is more. The frequency used is very low and when the brain is engaged in microcurrent neurofeedback the glymphatic system of the brain is supported and the process promotes metabolic clearance, an essential process to promote healthy brain function.

– Importance of exploring effective treatments for anxiety, depression, insomnia, and more

Individuals seeking solutions to various mental health and physical health concerns can experience a desire to engage in non-medication options with sustained results. Patients report that 85% of the time noticeable, positive improvement occurs after 1-3 sessions with sustained results after 15-20 sessions. It is of note that all brains and life experience are different and the number of sessions can vary.

Testimonials

Here are some real life testimonials from recent patients engaged in microcurrent neurofeedback:

“I am much more able to switch to positive versus generations of negative thinking”

“Immediately after my session, I was incredibly calm and hopeful. I have never felt that level of peace before.”

“All in all every dollar I spent on neurofeedback was worth it.”

“My son is more calm and managing school work much better. His behavior has improved significantly. His teacher reached out to share how much improvement occurred since he started microcurrent neurofeedback.”

“My anxiety is gone.”

“My focus has improved.”

“I slept all night for the first time in years.”

“My tremors have reduced 60-70%.”

Benefits of Neurofeedback

Again, here’s a summary of areas where patients report significant improvement:

– Reduced anxiety and depression

– Improved sleep patterns and combating insomnia

– Enhanced focus and reducing brain fog

– Reductions in chronic pain and migraines

– Reduction in functional impact of traumatic brain injuries and stroke

– Improved cognitive function

– and more….

What to Expect During a Neurofeedback Session

The patient will attend an initial assessment with the clinician to review problems, goals and the process of a session. Once the initial verbal assessment is complete, many patients engage in a Brain Gauge assessment to establish a baseline of brain function to support monitoring of improvement. Others rely on the improvements in function as the gauge.

Next steps include preparing the patient’s skin for a session. The clinician will clean the areas where leads will be placed with witch hazel, and then prep the skin with medical grade skin prep tape. The tape is similar to a fine grade sandpaper. The clinician then applies conductive paste where the leads will be placed and then places the leads. Finally, the microcurrent protocol is engaged and a very low dose of electrical stimulation is started according to the Microcurrent Protocol. Initially, patients attend two to three times per week with each session lasting about 30 minutes. After three or four weeks most patients begin to come 1 time per week and eventually titrate to every two weeks. For many that is the end of the series and for others they prefer to establish a maintenance schedule with many coming one time per month. During the session, the patient is seated in a comfortable chair and sits quietly when the clinician completes the session. Generally, the patients report feeling nothing and then report a sense of calm as the session concludes.

Who Can Benefit from Neurofeedback?

Moreover, the types of problems where patient’s report improvement include depression, anxiety, peak performance, OCD, PTSD, post stroke, cognitive decline, emotion regulation and so much more. Daily, patients report improvements and their nervous system being more relaxed, or fine tuned. Microcurrent neurofeedback promotes a sense of hope for a non-medication option with sustaining results for a more healthful experience of life.

Frequently asked questions about IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback

Who can be treated with IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback?

Generally, most patients report no side effects when engaging in neurofeedback. Of course, the clinician will review any risks and benefits of microcurrent neurofeedback and there are occasions when the patient’s primary care physician is engaged to confirm their opinion on the potential impact on the patient’s health. In my clinical experience, any side effects generally pass within 24 hours.

Conclusion
