Neurofeedback Therapy

What Is Neurofeedback Therapy?

The brain and nervous system play a major role in influencing our sense of well-being. When our fight-or-flight response gets triggered, we become stressed out, anxious, or may feel like we’re reliving past trauma. Neurofeedback therapy helps our brain rest and recover by supporting the parasympathetic part of the nervous system to restore a sense of calm.

IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback (IASIS MCN) uses carefully calibrated microcurrent signals to communicate with the brain, essentially providing the brain a “massage,” which in turn reduces stress hormones and increases “feel good” hormones. By gently guiding the central nervous system towards balance and homeostasis, this technology has the potential to create lasting improvements in brain function and overall health.

Utilizing cutting-edge technology, IASIS MCN offers a drug-free, noninvasive solution to a wide range of disorders in both children and adults. Scientifically proven to be effective, this neurofeedback training method can help alleviate problems related to stress, anxiety, depression, addiction, ADHD, Autism, dementia, sleep problems, stroke symptoms, and much more. No matter its application, IASIS MCN Neurofeedback therapy offers a natural and effective approach to optimize brain health and performance.

Traditional neurofeedback emerged in the 1950s with a focus on retraining the brain. At this time, brain wave information was sent to a computer, and through biofeedback, clients were encouraged to train their brain waves by mentally manipulating events on the screen. This early version of neurofeedback did not transmit a signal back to the brain. In 2017, IASIS MCN was developed, offering a more finely-tuned and gentle approach that emits microcurrents to relax the brain and clear amyloid proteins.

What IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback Therapy Sessions Look Like

A simple way to think about how IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback works is to imagine your brain activity like water running through a garden hose. When a garden hose becomes kinked, the water will not flow optimally—or, maybe not even at all. Receiving IASIS MCN allows the hose to become unkinked so optimal water flow is restored. Because microcurrent neurofeedback promotes an environment for brain waves to resume a normal and healthy pattern, the root of the problem is addressed, not just the symptoms.

During neurofeedback therapy, five or more small electrodes are placed on your neck and head, and an electroencephalogram (EEG) is recorded. The ultra-microstimulation current emitted is less than a cell phone and most clients report that they don’t notice any physical sensation from it. Throughout neurofeedback therapy, you will sit passively and remain relaxed. As the neurofeedback practitioner monitors the screen and electrodes for connectivity, you may engage in some conversation, but otherwise, the experience will be calming and restful.

It’s recommended that sessions occur 1-2 times a week for intervals of 30-45 minutes. Since every brain is different, the improvement time varies. A key factor in determining the duration of neurofeedback therapy is how long you’ve been struggling with your issues. While some clients report improvements within 1-3 sessions, others may take more sessions to see results. In general, most clients report experiencing sustained improvement within 12-20 sessions.

Other Things To Know About IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback

IASIS MCNF requires in-person visits that will take place at my office located in Montgomery, Texas. I do not take private insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid and only offer cash-pay services. However, I work with Mentaya, a claim submission service that processes superbills for clients who would like to seek reimbursement for out-of-network claims.

Who Can Benefit From Neurofeedback Therapy?

I work with clients of all ages, from infants to folks in their 90s. Clients report neurofeedback therapy can reduce the symptoms of mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Clients report benefits from IASIS MC Neurofeedback when they experience problems with insomnia, Autism, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or the effects of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), stroke, Parkinson’s disease, or Ataxia, a movement disorder similar to Parkinson’s. Extensive research has been conducted on microcurrent neurofeedback that supports its effectiveness “for ADHD, anxiety, autism, insomnia, PTSD, tinnitus, and more.” [1] [2]

Additionally, IASIS MCF can support and enhance peak performance, including sports, academics, and executive function. After completing neurofeedback therapy, clients report enhanced memory and cognitive function, as well as feeling more focused and relaxed when performing. In addition to neurofeedback therapy, I may incorporate Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and some Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness into the treatment plan, depending upon a client’s concerns.

I decided to incorporate IASIS MCNF into my practice after witnessing firsthand the beneficial outcome it had on a family member who used it to reduce the symptoms of ADHD and anxiety. I was already a certified EMDR therapist at the time and could see the importance of effective brain-based techniques when supporting clients.

After I began providing IASIS MCNF to my friends and family members, the results were astonishing. I knew then that this modality would become a key part of my practice. I decided to focus on neuro counseling, a brain-based approach to therapy that promotes optimal functioning. In addition to neurofeedback therapy, neuro counseling recognizes the importance of diet, exercise, and adequate sleep while also integrating the social and spiritual aspects of your life to address your overall well-being.

IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback offers a gentle, natural, medication-free option to improve brain function. Because it typically takes less time to experience results, IASIS MCF is less expensive than traditional neurofeedback or talk therapy techniques. Its ability to calm and balance the brain can lead to lasting change in your life.
