Neurofeedback Therapy in Conroe, TX

Personalized Brain-Based Care with NewMind Functional Neurofeedback and IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback

Your brain influences how you think, feel, focus, sleep, respond to stress, and function throughout the day. When patterns of brain activity or nervous system regulation become inefficient, you may experience symptoms such as anxiety, difficulty concentrating, poor sleep, emotional reactivity, brain fog, or feeling constantly overwhelmed. Neurofeedback therapy in Conroe, TX offers a non-invasive, brain-based approach designed to support healthier patterns of brain activity and nervous system regulation.

At Authentic Brain Solutions in Conroe, Texas, neurofeedback is not a one-size-fits-all approach.

We offer two distinct forms of neurofeedback—NewMind Functional Neurofeedback and IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback (MCN)—allowing services to be individualized based on your symptoms, goals, history, and assessment findings.

For clients receiving Neurofeedback, the process can incorporate qEEG brain mapping, cognitive performance assessment, biopsychosocial assessment, and ongoing progress tracking to develop a more complete picture of how the brain is functioning.

Authentic Brain Solutions provides in-person neurofeedback services for children, adolescents, and adults in Conroe, Montgomery, The Woodlands, Willis, Lake Conroe, and surrounding Montgomery County communities.

What Is Neurofeedback Therapy?

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, brain-based form of biofeedback designed to support the brain’s ability to recognize and modify patterns of activity.

Brain activity produces measurable electrical patterns. During neurofeedback, sensors placed on the scalp detect this activity. Depending on the type of neurofeedback being used, the brain receives information or feedback intended to encourage more flexible and efficient patterns of functioning.

Neurofeedback does not require you to consciously figure out how to change your brainwaves. Instead, the process works with the brain’s natural capacity to learn, adapt, and reorganize—a characteristic known as neuroplasticity.

At Authentic Brain Solutions, we offer two different approaches, and neurofeedback therapy is individualized based on your goals, symptoms, history, and assessment findings.

What Does A Neurofeedback Therapy Sessions Look Like

NewMind Functional Neurofeedback

NewMind Functional Neurofeedback combines EEG-based neurofeedback training with a comprehensive assessment process.

Rather than choosing a training protocol based only on a diagnosis or symptoms, NewMind allows us to examine patterns of brainwave activity and consider those findings alongside other factors that may be affecting how you function.

The assessment process may include:

  • qEEG brain mapping
  • Biopsychosocial assessment
  • Mental and emotional assessment
  • Physiological and metabolic information
  • Cognitive performance testing
  • Symptom and progress tracking

This information helps create an individualized neurofeedback training plan based on your unique patterns rather than relying solely on a diagnostic label.

qEEG Brain Mapping

A qEEG brain map records electrical activity at multiple locations across the scalp.

The resulting maps provide information about patterns of brainwave activity and can help identify areas that may be functioning differently from expected patterns.

A brain map is not a medical or psychiatric diagnosis. Instead, it is one source of information considered alongside your symptoms, history, goals, cognitive functioning, and biopsychosocial assessment.

This allows us to ask a more useful question than simply, “What diagnosis do you have?”

We can also explore:

“How is your brain currently functioning, and what factors may be contributing to the difficulties you are experiencing?”

Personalized Neurofeedback Training

Information from your assessment and brain map helps guide the development of your NewMind neurofeedback protocol.

During a training session, sensors are placed on the scalp to measure brainwave activity. You may watch a video or other visual display while the system responds in real time to your brain activity.

When targeted patterns occur, the feedback reflects that activity. Through repeated feedback, the brain has an opportunity to learn and reinforce more efficient patterns.

Progress can be monitored throughout training using symptom tracking, cognitive measures, session data, and, when appropriate, comparison brain mapping.

IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback

IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback (MCN) takes a different approach.

Rather than actively training specific brainwave patterns through audiovisual feedback, IASIS MCN uses extremely brief, low-intensity signals while monitoring brain activity.

Small sensors are placed on the head and neck, and the client generally relaxes while the provider completes the session. Most people do not feel the signal being delivered.

IASIS MCN is often selected when the primary goal is supporting overall nervous system regulation and brain flexibility.

Clients commonly explore IASIS MCN for concerns involving stress, anxiety, sleep, emotional regulation, attention, brain fog, trauma-related symptoms, and cognitive performance.

NewMind vs. IASIS: What’s the Difference?

Although both approaches fall within the broader field of neurofeedback, they work differently.

NewMind Functional Neurofeedback uses EEG-based assessment and active feedback training. Brain mapping and other assessments can be used to identify patterns and develop individualized training protocols. Training typically occurs over multiple sessions as the brain receives repeated feedback about its activity.

IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback uses brief microcurrent signals and requires very little active participation from the client. Its focus is supporting the brain and nervous system’s capacity for regulation and flexibility.

One approach is not automatically better than the other.

The more important question is:

Which approach makes the most sense for you?

During your consultation and assessment, we can discuss your concerns, goals, history, and available options to determine an appropriate starting point.

A More Complete Brain Assessment

Symptoms don’t occur in isolation.

Difficulty concentrating, for example, could potentially be influenced by attention regulation, anxiety, chronic stress, poor sleep, trauma, cognitive fatigue, lifestyle factors, or a combination of issues.

That is why Authentic Brain Solutions takes a broader approach to assessment.

Depending on your needs, assessment may include:

  • qEEG brain mapping
  • BrainGauge cognitive assessment
  • Biopsychosocial assessment
  • Symptom inventories
  • Mental and emotional assessment
  • Review of sleep, stress, lifestyle, and relevant history

Looking at multiple sources of information can provide a more complete picture than relying on symptoms alone.

What Concerns May Lead Someone to Explore Neurofeedback?

People seek neurofeedback for many different reasons. Some are experiencing significant symptoms, while others are functioning well but want to improve cognitive or emotional performance.

Clients may explore neurofeedback when experiencing concerns involving:

  • ADHD, attention, or concentration
  • Anxiety and chronic stress
  • Emotional dysregulation
  • Trauma-related symptoms
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Brain fog or mental fatigue
  • Memory and cognitive concerns
  • Executive functioning challenges
  • Difficulty settling or relaxing
  • Cognitive changes following neurological events or injury
  • Peak performance in academics, athletics, or professional settings

Neurofeedback should not be viewed as a replacement for necessary medical, neurological, psychiatric, or psychological care. When appropriate, it can be incorporated as part of a broader treatment or wellness plan.

Neurofeedback and Counseling

One advantage of receiving neurofeedback at Authentic Brain Solutions is the ability to combine brain-based approaches with counseling when appropriate.

Neurofeedback focuses on patterns of brain activity and self-regulation.

Counseling addresses the thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, experiences, and beliefs affecting your life.

For clients dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, or other emotional concerns, neurofeedback may be integrated with approaches such as:

  • EMDR therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • REBT
  • Mindfulness and grounding
  • Nervous system regulation strategies
  • Psychoeducation

This allows us to consider both what you have experienced and how your brain and nervous system are responding to those experiences.

What Does a Neurofeedback Session Look Like?

Your experience will depend on whether you are participating in NewMind Functional Neurofeedback or IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback.

With NewMind Functional Neurofeedback, sensors monitor EEG activity while you receive real-time feedback, often through a video or visual display. Your individualized training protocol is informed by your assessment findings.

With IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback, sensors are placed at selected locations while very brief microcurrent signals are delivered. You remain passive and relaxed during the process.

Both approaches are non-invasive and take place in our Conroe office.

The number and frequency of sessions varies because every person’s brain, history, symptoms, and goals are different. Progress is evaluated over time rather than promising a predetermined outcome.

In-Office and NewMind Home Neurofeedback Training

For appropriate clients, NewMind guided home neurofeedback training may also be available.

Home training can allow clients to complete prescribed neurofeedback sessions outside the office using equipment and protocols established by the provider. Progress and session information can be reviewed so that training can be adjusted when appropriate.

Home neurofeedback is not simply a device that is purchased and used independently. It remains part of a professionally guided neurofeedback program.

Whether home training is appropriate is determined individually after assessment and initial in-office services.

Neurofeedback for Peak Performance

You don’t have to be struggling with a mental health condition to be interested in how your brain performs.

Students, athletes, executives, professionals, and other high performers may seek neurofeedback to support areas such as:

  • Sustained attention
  • Mental clarity
  • Cognitive efficiency
  • Stress regulation
  • Performance under pressure
  • Memory
  • Executive functioning
  • Recovery and sleep

Brain mapping and cognitive performance testing can also provide objective information that helps establish a baseline and track changes over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is NewMind Functional Neurofeedback the same as IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback?

No. Both are brain-based approaches, but they use different methods. NewMind uses EEG-based feedback training guided by assessment data, while IASIS uses very brief microcurrent signals. Authentic Brain Solutions offers both approaches.

Do I need a brain map before neurofeedback?

Not necessarily. qEEG brain mapping is particularly useful as part of the NewMind Functional Neurofeedback process because it can help guide individualized training. IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback does not require a brain map.

Can a brain map diagnose ADHD, anxiety, depression, or PTSD?

No. A qEEG brain map provides information about patterns of electrical brain activity but should not be used by itself to diagnose a mental health or medical condition. Findings are considered alongside your history, symptoms, assessment information, and other relevant clinical information.

Is neurofeedback medication-free?

Neurofeedback itself does not involve medication. Some clients use neurofeedback while taking prescribed medications or receiving other forms of healthcare. Medication decisions should always be discussed with the prescribing healthcare professional.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no single number that applies to everyone. The recommended frequency and duration depend on your goals, symptoms, assessment findings, response to training, and type of neurofeedback being used.

Can I do NewMind neurofeedback at home?

Guided home training may be available for appropriate clients after assessment and initial training. The program remains provider-guided, with protocols and progress monitored throughout the process.

Can neurofeedback be combined with EMDR or counseling?

Yes. For some clients, combining neurofeedback with counseling or EMDR allows us to address both nervous system regulation and the experiences, emotions, thoughts, and behaviors contributing to current difficulties.
